This smoothie not only tastes really, REALLY good but it’s also packed with serious superfood nutrition. You won’t believe all the benefits. Let’s take a look at each ingredient individually:

Bananas:

  • Healthy Kidney Function: About 190,000 cases of kidney cancer are diagnosed each year. Research published in the International Journal of Cancer has shown that daily consumption of whole fruits and vegetables, especially bananas, is highly protective to kidney health. The results show that, over a long time frame (13.4 years), women eating more than 2.5 servings of fruits and vegetable per day cut their risk of kidney cancer by 40%. Among the fruits, bananas were especially protective. Women eating bananas four to six times a week halved their risk of developing the disease compared to those who did not eat this fruit. The conclusion of the study is that frequent consumption of fruits and vegetables, especially bananas, cabbage and root vegetables, may reduce risk of kidney cancer. This is because bananas and many root vegetables contain especially high amounts of antioxidant phenolic compounds, while cabbage is rich in sulfur, necessary for effective detoxification of potential carcinogens. Other benefits of bananas include:
  • Reducing Depression
  • Anemia support
  • Constipation and Diarrhea
  • Eyesight Protection

It is hard to believe that these berries can also cure serious problems like Alzheimer’s disease to a great extent. They even heal damaged brain cells and neuron tissues and keep your memory sharp for a long-long time. Researchers found that diets rich in blueberries significantly improved both the learning capacity and motor skills of aging animals, making them mentally equivalent to much younger ones.
  • The highest antioxidant capacity of all fresh fruit:

Blue Berries, being very rich in anti oxidantslike Anthocyanin, vitamin C, B complex, vitamin E, vitamin A, copper (a very effective immune builder and anti-bacterial), selenium, zinc, iron (promotes immunity by raising haemoglobin and oxygen concentration in blood) etc. boost up your immune systemand prevent infections

WOW!!! That’s a lotta nutrition packed into one little smoothie! No wonder it gave me energy and kept me full all day! Superfoods can be a really fun addition to your repertoire but please don’t feel intimidated or like you have to use superfoods. The real stars are always fruits and vegetables! Even your basic smoothie provides tremendous health benefits. Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the emails and comments I’ve recently received regarding my basic green smoothies:

“I love your blog Linda! The green smoothie recipe I came across on your site inspired me so much, that I ran to the library and have been devouring books ever since. Victoria Boutenkou and her family have some of my favorite books. I’ve slowly started this diet into my life in mid December and as of today I’ve lost 11 pounds. I feel amazing, and not in the fad diet kind of way. My skin is better, I’m never hungry and I can feel my healthiness inside and out. I watched the video “Sick, Fat and Nearly Dead” on Hulu last Saturday and found it very moving. Between that and your blog I would love to start a Juice Feast very soon. Your list of recipes will be very helpful. I find your site very uplifting and fun; I check it almost every day. I love that you are truly here to help others and not just make money off of it. Thank you for your blog, I love it!” – Amanda

“Linda: Just received the cocoa powder, OMG, it is so good, I have been drinking the Green Smoothies as well, my husband has some this weekend as well, he loves it. I don’t know if it is the smoothies or not but I have so much energy. Take care.”      – Cheryl

“I just have to say…I was SUPER skeptical about this smoothie…how could it possibly taste good with spinach in it, and would I even notice a difference after adding them into my health routine? Well, first of all, my two girls can NOT get enough of them…they beg for green smoothies. I was afraid they would scoff at the color…just the opposite! So now, I send my first grader to school with a belly full of spinach instead of sugary cereal…win! Secondly, my skin has NEVER looked better…no more breakouts (at ALL, I mean not ONE), my skin tone is brighter and just overall, prettier, if I do say so myself :) Now this one really amazed me…my morning coffee intake has gone from 4-5 cups a day down to MAYBE one…I often don’t even finish the one. Best part of all, the results were almost instant..we’ve only been drinking the smoothies a few weeks! I would HIGHLY recommend :)” – Erin

“I would like to give an update on this smoothie. I have been drinking it now for 8 days. I drink it in the morning and pretty much the rest of the day until lunch time. When I have a nice, portioned control lunch and then a portioned control dinner. Do I snack in between? NO! not because I am restraining, but because these smoothies have taken my cravings away for anything made with flour or white sugar. I only crave the fruit and veggies. Isn’t this awesome? I am a diabetic, and my sugar has not increased at all!!! I am feeling wonderful throughout the day…I would like to thank you for your wonderful posts that just keep coming into my feeder. I look forward to each one!”    -Maria

“I made Green Monster smoothies for breakfast this morning for myself, my 6-yr-old daughter and my 5-yr-old son. My son is notorious for taking one look at something and declaring he doesn’t like it – before he’s even tried it. Surprise, surprise, he decided he didn’t like the smoothie as soon as I handed it to him. I told him to just try it–I promised he’d like it. I turned back to do the dishes and before I knew it, he was asking if he could have more Green Monster. Shocked, I asked if he had finished it. He begrudgingly answered, “Yeah…I kinda love it.” SCORE! Oh, and by the way, we’ve decided {since my son is so beating the “bad guys”} that when you finish your smoothie you get to declare that you’ve “Killed the Monster!” – Abby

“A friend of mine turned me on to your super green smoothies and I am now on day #2. I have to say that I feel amazing and so full of energy! Thankyou so much for sharing the recipe!” – Melissa

I hope this inspires you to come join us on the smoothie train!! All Aboard!!
