Getting Back On The Weight Loss Train
The overwhelming theme of the moment is STRUGGLE! Many of you are struggling to stick to a healthy lifestyle right now with the coming holidays, stress, cold weather, etc. The first thing I am going to say is that IT’S OK!! It really is. We can’t be perfect all the time, we just can’t. Michael Jordan once said, “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. ” What he’s saying is that there is a lesson in every failure. Take these slips as an opportunity to learn what adjustments need to be made. What could you have done to prevent the slip? What could you have done to be better prepared? What could you do to be kinder to yourself?
If binging is an issue, take time to be good to yourself. It’s been a very stressful time with the intensity of the election and the devastation on the East Coast. What most of us really need is some TLC in the form of a nice long bubble bath with candles and relaxing music. Instead, we tend to numb out with food and in doing so, we never get the love and attention that we desperately need. Journaling is another great way to de-stress and get all those crazy emotions out on paper instead of stuffing them down with food. I always feel better after a quick journal session. There’s just something about getting your feelings out on paper that provides a great release! If you need some inspiration or motivation, check out this video on How to Overcome Emotional Eating:

Remember that failure is inevitable, we’re not always going to be perfect especially when it comes to weight loss. True success comes from getting back up when you fall. Failures are all just learning lessons. Remember to be good to yourself and don’t be so hard on yourself! One or two weeks is nothing in the grand scheme of things.
