Red Pepper Dip Recipe

I just tried Muhammara for the first time last month when I was in Iowa for my Live Food Demo. Muhammara is a Middle Eastern red pepper spread that is spicy, garlicky, healthy and delicious! A friend of mine shared this recipe with me and I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with you!!

You’ll need:

  • 7 ounces red bell pepper (about 2 medium sized peppers)
  • 1 slice of Ezekiel bread toasted very well then torn into pieces (we’re using this as a substitute for breadcrumbs). You could also use 1/4 cup of Food For Life sprouted wheat cereal.
  • 1/4 cup raw walnuts
  • 1 Tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Molasses
  • 1 tsp Cranberry Juice
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt to taste

Simply add all ingredients to a food processor and combine until smooth, about 1-2 minutes. For this recipe I used a Cuisinart Smart Stick mini food processor available through Amazon.

Muhammara is typically served with pita chips but I typically stay away from wheat products so I used veggies: sliced red peppers, carrots, celery, cucumber and Mary’s Gone Crackers instead. It was also be a great addition to a veggie sandwich!!

This spread is absolutely delicious and so easy to make! You can also keep the recipe entirely raw by adding another 1/4 cup walnuts instead of the toasted Ezekiel bread, it’s up to you!!
