Cleanse America Day 1

Hi Everyone! Yesterday was Day 1 of Cleanse America and judging by the posts on the community most of you did GREAT!! In my experience, the first 1-3 days of a cleanse are typically the most difficult so if you struggled yesterday have faith that it just gets easier with each day!!

I’m going to be posting pics and recipes of my daily eats to hopefully give you ideas and recipes to use in your own cleanse and in your daily lifestyle. I am doing option #2 which is all raw foods.

Yesterday my day started with a delicious green smoothie:

Strawberry Mango Green Smoothie:

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 10 ounce bag of frozen strawberries
  • 1 10 ounce bag of frozen mangoes
  • 2 large handfuls of baby spinach
  • 1.5 cups Almond Milk Kefir – love this stuff and what it’s done for my body and well being!! I can’t make a green smoothie without it!
  • 2 droppers full of Vanilla Stevia

Blend in a high speed blender until smooth. I use VitaMix. This recipe makes about 64 ounces so should be enough for two large servings. If you don’t want that much, simply cut the recipe in half.

Linda Wagner's Detox E-Books are HERE!!

A little later in the afternoon I had the other half of my green smoothie and a snack of No Bean Hummus and carrots.

Dinner was a very large salad with fresh corn, avocado and grape tomatoes. I call it my “Summer Salad” because it tastes just like summer!

Dessert was an ice cold Chocolate Milkshake. Cleansing just doesn’t feel like cleansing when you get to have food this good, especially in the form of a Chocolate Shake!! This one was super simple and hit the spot.

Raw Chocolate Milkshake

Blend in a high speed blender until smooth and ENJOY!! I use VitaMix. This recipe will make about 16 ounces.

Day 1 was a little rough for me so if you struggled yesterday, IT’S OK!! I felt it too! The body is simply doing it’s thing. I also know from past cleanses that the emotional aspect of cleansing is typically more intense than the physical act of cleansing. Sometimes just the fact that we can’t have something makes us want it more!!

For me personally, I have a lot on my plate with a busy schedule and numerous projects in the works. Normally I might grab a snack to “comfort” or to distract me from the stress. When we’re cleansing we don’t have this option and so these emotions are teaming right under the surface. I encourage all of you to be good to yourselves over the next week and a half. Take long baths, go for a walk, listen to your favorite music, journal, meditate, or even take a nap if you need to. It’s important to not only give your body a rest but your emotional self some R&R too!

Cleanses are wonderful for weight loss and health issues but they are also a time to really get in touch with yourself. It seems when we strip everything away, we are left with only our true selves and that can be both a wonderful and uncomfortable thing!!

Embrace the process, be GOOD to yourself and enjoy the ride!! xo

Fabulous post, Linda! REALLY!! The food looks wonderful! I am also IN LOVE with the almond kefir – have a batch constantly going. It has done wonders for my health, and flattened the belly too (always a bonus!). I drink some in the morning upon rising and a glass before going to bed. Also, use as a base in smoothies during the day.

The emotional part has been spot on. I felt wonderful yesterday, but during the evening some emotions sprang up and hit the fan. I let them out, was aware, had a conversation with myself about it and came back with affirmations, different approach and positive outlook and felt much better. It was something there that had to be dealt with and the time was right and I was in the right place to approach healthfully. It has been an issue that has occurred time and time again, but this time was different (better). So, cleansing takes on many different forms. As we are re-programming our diets, we also have to re-program our minds. I’m all for it!! Out with the old so the new can shine thru. I’ll be preparing some of your blended soup recipes for dinner for the next couple of nights. Love them much! But love you more! 🙂

      Hi Kibby,

Me too with the constant batch of Almond Milk Kefir!

Sounds like you handled your emotional detox like a pro! I’m still not sure what mine’s all about… kind of like a fun, interesting journey to figure it out!! 😉
Blended soups sound divine!! I think I’ll have one tonight too!! xo

Hi Linda! Well, I wasn’t very PRO-like during it, but I came around. 🙂 All in due time! Louise Hay book has been keeping me in check and focused on the what is most important and not living in the past or negative thoughts/emotions. It isn’t easy but as long as you try and work on it, it gets better. It’s taking steps, not standing still or stagnant. Might have to walk thru some mud puddles to get to the other side where it’s cleaner. If I must, I must! 🙂 I’m here for you if you want to talk.

    Hi Linda,

Thank you so much for this post- I always love seeing an entire menu for the day, to help with my own meal planning. Question- I am getting ready to start a surgical residency in July, and am trying to figure out how to keep my healthy habits alive during this physically and emotionally demanding training. What are your thoughts on making a batch of green smoothies for the week and freezing them? I think this is the only way I will be able to have my usual smoothie, seeing that I will be in the hospital from before dawn to late evening, and sometimes overnight. Do you think the health benefits will be retained? Also, any ideas for on-the-go and packed for the day meals will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks so much in advance!

Hi Yula, you can absolutely freeze them!! I do this all the time!
I usually pack salads, already baked sweet potatoes (just reheat them), veggies and dip and soups/stews!

everything looks so yummy! I had a hard time with beans at the beginning, but after you eat them for so long the toot toot part goes away…doesn’t bother me at all! lol

    cleanse away!

    Hello Linda,
It’s been 3 days since I’ve been drinking the green smoothie, and I feel more energized!
I was just wondering though, can one just stick to smoothies with veggies and fruits or is it better to add other ingredients such as, Almond Milk Kefir or Stevia? And thank you for taking the time to answer all the questions your blog followers have, you are amazing!

    • Linda April 11, 2012 at 11:36 am #

Hi Liz, You can do fruit and veggies alone or add in…the choice is yours! I just go by how I feel! I LOVE the way Almond Milk Kefir makes me feel so I always use that as a liquid for my smoothies! The fun part is trying new things!

I’m on day 3 of my cleanse. I’m doing a smoothie in the morning and then fresh juices for the rest of the day. My goal is 5 days instead of the 10. I’ve never done a cleanse before so 10 days felt a bit overwhelming. It’s been a tough 3 days but am feeling great so far. I’m proud of myself that I’m doing it and it’s definitely an eye opening experience. I’m learning that my willpower is much stronger than I thought! Thanks for all the helpful tips and inspiration. You rock!!!

    xoxo

  12. Natalie April 26, 2012 at 1:14 pm #

    Hi Linda,

I absolutely love these meals you made on day 1 of your cleanse. I was wondering if you have all the recipes for the entire 10 day cleanse. I have been looking for something like this to make a change.

This looks great! What is Almond Milk Kefir and where can you buy it?

  14. Lauren Barnard July 17, 2012 at 3:55 pm #

Does the chocolate milkshake have a strong banana flavor? It looks delicious but I’m not a huge fan of the banana flavor…
