This belly buster green juice is a powerful one! I know everyone is ready to rock their New Year’s resolutions so I thought I would share one of my favorite juice recipes for busting belly fat and jump-starting your metabolism!

This belly buster juice is loaded with citrus fruits, including their skins. Normally, I peel my citrus before juicing because the essential oils in the skin can make the juice bitter. In this case, we’re going to keep the skin due to the high amounts of hesperidin and diosmin. Hesperidin and diosmin are bioflavinoids found in citrus fruits like lemons and oranges. These bioflavinoids support:

  • healthy cholesterol levels
  • active metabolic function
  • healthy veins (great for bulging veins and varicose veins!!)
  • immune system function
  • fat metabolism
  • inflammation

While these bioflavinoids may taste slightly bitter, the benefits are well worth it! I created this combination specifically with health benefits and taste in mind so it’s actually still quite tasty! In all honesty, I think most of us can endure a little bitterness in exchange for a flat belly and amazing health benefits, am I right?!

I recommend having this juice daily as your breakfast meal. Substituting juice for breakfast is a great way to reduce your food intake while still getting ample vitamins and minerals. Most people find that they don’t even miss having solid food for breakfast because juicing makes them feel so satisfied due to the high content of nutrients. Personally, I always feel a nice little ZING from juicing that energizes me in such a clean and lovely way. Try it and see how you feel! If you’re not ready to substitute juice as a meal, you can have it as a snack in between meals. You will still get great benefits from doing so!

You’ll need:

  • 3 medium apples (I used fuji)
  • 1 large cucumber
  • 1 large lemon, including skin
  • 1 lime, including skin
  • 3 small mandarins, including skin
  • 1 head romaine lettuce

First wash the skin of your fruits and veggies. I always use this wash. Because we are using the skin, try to get all organic if you can.

Then simply run all ingredients through a juicer (I recommend Breville) and feel the ZING!! (Makes 32oz)

And, if you have backyard chickens like we do, be sure to give them the leftover pulp. They love it!

5 Simple Steps To Ramp Up Your Weight Loss

1. Increase your greens – Did you know that green leafy vegetables and regular vegetables are actually cleansing?! They are! We all know that they are healthy and contain lots of extra vitamins and minerals but they are also detoxifying. Greens and mineral dense foods naturally cleanse the body due to their rich fiber and water content. The more green leaves and vegetables you incorporate into your diet the better! Greens also help curb cravings so the next time a craving hits, try a green smoothie instead. I promise you will be amazed at how good it tastes, how satisfied you are, and how quickly those cravings vanish! You can also add more greens and veggies into your diet by making a lovely zucchini pasta, any one of these delicious salads, and yummy green juice!

Drink more – Most people are so used to being chronically dehydrated that they no longer recognize the body’s normal signals of thirst. According to Dr. Howard Flaks, a bariatric (obesity) specialist in Beverly Hills, California, “By not drinking enough water, many people incur excess body fat, poor muscle tone and size, decreased digestive efficiency and organ function, increased toxicity in the body, joint and muscle soreness and water retention.” When your body is not properly hydrated all of your organs have to work harder. 3. Sweat Daily – As a rule of thumb, it’s always a good idea to do something daily that makes you sweat. Sweating is an excellent form of detoxification. It stimulates your lymph glands, gets your blood pumping, and floods your body with feel good endorphins. Your sweat sesh can be anything from a brisk walk, a brutal workout, a run, a yoga class, dancing to great music, or just some good old fashioned house work!

  • Try a home workout – Celebs like Heidi Klum, Maria Shriver and Emmy Rossum are all into the 60 min circuit workout. “It raises your heart rate and gives you a full-body workout without having to spend countless hours on the Stairmaster and lifting weights at the gym. Within the 60 minutes, you can burn anywhere between 600 and 800 calories.” All you need to do is “add these 5 moves into your regular routine two to three times a week for a workout that will ‘balance the body from head to toe.'” The best part, you can easily do it at home!
  • Never Underestimate the calorie burning power of cleaning! I recently got a new vacuum and spent several hours deep cleaning my condo. I have a 55lb Australian Shepherd and a cat and both shed like it’s going out of style. I could literally vacuum every day and it would never be enough!! Besides using the FURminator (which is expensive but TOTALLY worth it if you have a dog or cat that sheds), a great vacuum is key. I was so stoked to get my new vacuum today. My last one bit the dust and for the past several days there have been fur balls floating around everywhere. I decided to get the Shark Professional Lift Away due to its great reviews from pet owners on Amazon. I was a tad skeptical since I have gone through about 4 different vacuums in as many years. I know people swear by the Dyson Animal Ball but I’m just not in the market to spend $500+ on a vacuum right now. I am however, really, really happy with my new Shark vacuum! For any of you that have shedding animals, this vacuum is awesome! Ok, I realize I went off on a tangent there…but I’m just so happy to finally have a vacuum that works! Back to the topic at hand: Staying on top of house work not only burns calories but at the end of the day, it’s so nice to have a nice clean home; whether it be clean laundry, windows, bathroom, etc. If you feel like you don’t have time/money to get to the gym, just grab your cleaning supplies and start scrubbing! You’ll get a great workout and have a sparkling clean home at the end of it = double win!!

4. Colon Cleansing – Speaking of cleaning…have you tried doing a Colon Cleanse? Mag07 it’s my absolute favorite! People always say once you’ve got it that it’s there forever which simply is not true! I’ve see numerous clients completely change their shape with diet and self care alone! I hope these 5 steps help give you some easy, doable ideas to take your health and fitness goals to the next level. Remember that in the end, it’s all about feeling good. 6 Steps to a Sexy Swimsuit Body!

Spring break is almost here and summer will be here before you know it! You know what that means…swimsuit season is rapidly approaching. If you’re like most women you love summer but you my have some anxiety over wearing a swimsuit. Lucky for you, I’m going to share some very inexpensive and effective methods that actually work to get rid of cellulite for good!! I use them every year before swimsuit season with out fail. Creams and lotions typically do nothing, so don’t even bother wasting your time and hard earned money. Here are 6 simple steps that will help you achieve smoother skin and a healthier bod in time for swimsuit season!

1. Skin brushing. I recently wrote an article about this. Skin brushing has been used for literally thousands of years! It not only helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite but also stimulates and tightens the skin. It feels amazing and can be done anytime for FREE!! Skin brushes are under $10 and will last forever. For instructions on skin brushing read this article.

2. Cellulite Buster. This juice is super yummy and a great way to rev up your metabolism and fat burning potential! It’s featured in my Juice Feasting 101 ebook but I’ll also share the recipe with you here.

  • 1 peeled grapefruit
  • 3 peeled oranges
  • 1 peeled lemon
  • 1 inch knob or ginger

Run all ingredients through a juicer (I recommend Breville) and enjoy! (Makes 16oz) Drink daily in the morning on an empty stomach or after a workout.

3. Get off coffee. Coffee and caffeine are very dehydrating and can actually add to the appearance of cellulite, not cool! Staying properly hydrated and eliminating caffeinated beverages like coffee will help to hydrate and firm the skin. If you are looking for a coffee replacement, CocoCeps is a delicious, healthy, caffeine free alternative that tastes just like a delicious mocha!!

4. Rebounding. Rebounding on a mini trampoline is Ah-mazing for cellulite. It stimulates the lymphatic system and helps to tone and smooth the skin! When the lymphatic system isn’t working properly, fluid accumulates around cells, which, in some cases, can result in up to fifteen pounds of excess weight. This fluid prevents nutrients from entering cells, depriving them of the nourishment they need. Stagnant fluid that accumulates in your legs can bind to fat cells that become swollen—resulting in cellulite and varicose veins. Your cells get a deep squeeze from all that bouncing, which helps move toxins out. No other exercise that I know of yields the dimple-dashing, cellulite-slashing benefits regular rebounding offers. It is virtually the “excuse-proof exercise” because it can be done anywhere year round. (source.) Plus it’s a super fun way to get a great work out! You can do it in the privacy of your own home while watching your favorite TV show (any Girls fans out there?!). I recommend the Rebound AIR. It’s the best for your bones and joints. It can be a little pricey so some of you may want to get a cheaper version before investing in the ReboundAIR. If you’ve got the funds though, the extra money is definitely worth staying injury free!

5. Sugar free with stevia. Sugar is the devil when it comes to weight loss and cellulite. It’s unfortunate but true. Getting off sugar was one of the best things I ever did for my body. I look and FEEL so much better. My go-to as a sugar replacement is NuNaturals Stevia.  NuNaturals stevia is a pure plant extract, not a chemical. It tastes great and comes in several different forms from liquidspowderflavored steviaquick dissolve tabs, to packets so it’s easy to take with you. I noticed such a HUGE shift in my health when I switched to stevia and reduced my sugar intake. It also helped me clear my skin and lose those last few stubborn pounds that I couldn’t get rid of…yay for clear skin and weight loss!!

6. Real Food. “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” ― Michael Pollan, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto Our bodies know how to use and process real food. It doesn’t know how to use or process chemicals, preservatives, additives, dyes, colorings, or flavor enhancers. The result is that these waste products get trapped in our tissue and in our fat cells. Until we stop introducing these non-food intems into our system, we’ll never win the battle against cellulite.

So there you have it, 6 steps to a sexy, smooth, swimsuit ready body! Even just following a few of these steps will help tremendously and will also make you feel better immediately. Our health and weight is closely intertwined. Ultimately the things that make us healthier are also the same things that aid in weight loss and make us more beautiful!

Hello lovely juice feasters! How is the cleanse going?! It’s officially the end of Day 3. How are you feeling? How long are you going to go? It’s called Skin Brushing and it is AMAZING for reducing cellulite and sagging skin!!!

From Natural Health Techniques: The skin is the largest most important eliminative organ in the body and is responsible for one quarter of the body’s detoxification each day

  • The skin eliminates over one pound of waste acids each day in the average adult, most of it through the sweat glands
  • The skin is known also as our third kidney
  • The skin receives one third of all the blood circulated in the body
  • The skin is the last to receive nutrients in the body, yet the first to show signs of imbalance or deficiency

Detoxification is performed by a number of organs, glands, and transportation systems, including the skin, gut, kidneys, liver, lungs, lymphatic system, and mucous membranes. Dry brushing is a way to stimulate all the above organs of detoxification because it provides a gentle internal massage.

Dry Brushing was recommended by the Finnish Dr., Paavo Airola for his patients 30 years ago and is still popular in European spas and many cancer treatment centers today. The Russians, Turks and Scandinavians have used this treatment for centuries. Dry brushing is promoted as a preventative for dry skin and a way to exfoliate the skin, thus stimulating skin renewal that is super soft to the touch, but there are many other benefits as well:

1. Dry brushing removes cellulite – Cellulite is a non-scientific term defined as toxic deposits of subcutaneous fat material and fibrous tissue that are not able to be eliminated and which cause a dimpling effect on the overlying skin. These deposits most commonly occur on the thighs and hips of women. Cellulite can affect men and women of any body weight or size. What causes the toxins? Well, some think that we store the breakdown product of cells as toxins in this subcutaneous tissue. Others think that toxic emotions can be stored in the subcutaneous tissue which then builds up as cellulite.

  •  Your best bets for getting rid of cellulite are dry brushing, massage, working though the emotional issues that are causing the toxins to stagnate, eating foods that feed the skin, an alkaline diet program and a consistent/persistent exercise routine. These techniques will break down the unwelcome toxic body deposits and send them scurrying out your body through the elimination channels we discussed above. And your health will be SO much better for it!
  • Foods that feed the skin include: green vegetable juice, fruits (esp. berries), eggs, fresh dark green leafy vegetables, water rich vegetables like tomatoes & cucumbers, and plenty of purified water

2. Dry brushing cleans the lymphatic system.  The Lymph System is considered part of our immune system and is made of white blood cells called lymphocytes and the interstitial fluid that bathe our cells, bringing our cells nutrients and removing their waste. All detoxification occurs first and foremost through the lymph. Our bodies contain far more lymph than blood, so you can see how important this might be. Paavo Airola maintains that dry brushing is an essential part of any intestinal cleansing and healing program.

  • Dry brushing literally moves the lymph containing large proteins and particulate matter that cannot be transported in any other way back into circulatory system. If these proteins stayed in our systems outside the blood vessels, it would attract other fluid. This can result in swollen ankles, limbs, skin issues and cellulite.

3. Dry brushing removes dead skin layers.  Dry skin brushing helps shed dead skin cells, which can help improve skin texture and cell renewal. Dry skin is a sign of detoxification. Therefore it’s good to keep the process going by removing the dead skin daily. If the skin becomes congested, this can result in things like eczema, psoriasis, and dandruff.

4. Dry brushing strengthens the immune system. Dry skin brushing may reduce duration of infection and accelerate the clearing of toxins. It helps support the immune system during cancer and other chronic illness treatment. By stimulating the lymph vessels to drain toxic mucoid matter into organs of detoxification we can purify the entire system. After several days of dry brushing, sometimes you may notice a gelatinous mucoid material in your stools. This is a normal sign that the intestinal tract is renewing itself.

5.  Dry brushing stimulates the hormone and oil glands, thus helping all of the body systems perform at peak efficiency. The skin is your body’s largest organ. When improperly maintained, the elimination duties of the skin are forced upon the kidneys. Chemical analysis of sweat shows that it has almost the same constituents as urine.  If the skin becomes inactive, its pores choke with millions of dead cells, uric acid and other impurities which will remain in the body putting extra stress on the liver and kidneys.

6. Dry Brushing tightens the skin by increasing the flow of blood which, in turn moves toxins and lessens the appearance of cellulite. Our bodies make a new top layer of skin every 24 hours – skin brushing removes the old top layer, allowing the clean new layer to come to the surface, resulting in softer, smoother skin.

7. Dry Brushing tones the muscles. Dry skin brushing helps muscle tone by stimulating the nerve endings which causes the individual muscle fibers to activate and move. It also helps mobilize fat and helps to even distribution of fat deposits. This is a great technique for invalids who can’t exercise.

8. Dry brushing stimulates circulation.  Our skin breathes! And yet, in most people, this vital route of detoxification is operating far below its capacity, because it is clogged with dead skin cells and the un-removed waste excreted through perspiration. Dry skin brushing increases circulation to skin, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes. Increased blood flow begins entering the areas brushed and you will experience an increase in electromagnetic energy that permits you to feel energized and invigorated. By activating the circulation you can also prevent varicose veins.

9. Dry brushing improves the function of the nervous system – Dry skin brushing rejuvenates the nervous system by stimulating nerve endings in the skin.

What You Need To Dry Brush the Skin:

To dry brush, use a soft natural fiber brush with a long handle, so that you are able to reach all areas of your body. One with a removable head with a strap for your hand is a good choice. Here’s a picture of what you are looking for:

Instructions:

Remove your clothes, then take the brush off its handle for easier mobility. Starting with the soles of the feet, begin dry brushing the body using long upward strokes. Brush from the ankles to the calves, concentrating on the area behind the knees, thighs and buttocks to help mobilize fat stores (great for cellulite). Then brush the torso with upward strokes towards the heart. Finally, make long strokes from the wrists to the shoulders and underarms. This should take no more than 5 minutes and will leave you feeling totally invigorated! The best times to brush are in the morning before exercising or showering or before retiring for bed at night.

One of the easiest things you can do to ramp up your weight loss is reduce your intake of animal protein. Before you start freaking out, I’m not saying you have to stop eating meat…I’m simply saying reduce your intake, especially red meat. Lean meats like free-range eggs and fish are much easier to digest and will help you lose weight more quickly. You all know that I LOVE eggs, but my second favorite source of protein is wild caught fish (I’ve talked about the nutritional significance of wild-caught fish here). If you’re ready to make the switch, here is a super simple recipe that tastes great and is great for you!

For the roasted corn salsa you’ll need:

  • kernels from 3 ears of roasted corn
  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes, cut into quaters
  • 1/4 red onion, diced
  • 1/4 – 1/2 jalapeno, diced
  • 1 whole avocado, diced
  • 2 Tbs freshly minced cilantro
  • juice of 2-3 limes
  • sea salt and fresh black pepper to taste
  • 1 dropper of NuNaturals Stevia

Cook your shucked corn on the grill until slight grill marks appear, turning every 1-2 mins until evenly cooked (note: for this recipe it’s better to under cook your corn then overcook!). Let the corn cool down for a few minutes until it’s cool enough to handle. Stand the corn husks vertically, tip facing down, in a large shallow bowl or baking dish. Use a sharp knife to make long, downward strokes, removing the kernels from the cob, as you work your way around the cob.

Then place all remaining ingredients into your large mixing bowl and toss until well combined. Adjust salt, pepper, and lime to taste. Let sit for about 10-15 mins to let the flavors combine.

For the fish you’ll need:

  • 2 wild caught Red Snapper fillets, about 6-8oz each
  • sea salt, garlic powder, & fresh cracked pepper to taste

Simply season the fillets generously and Bake at 400° for about 12 minutes, depending on thickness of fillets, until fish flakes easily and is no longer translucent.

Top your fillets with a generous portion of corn salsa and be prepared for a taste explosion!!
