Fat Flush Juice This juice is loaded with fat burning fruits and vegetables that will get your metabolism revving! via Linda Wagner

The new year is a great time to fill your body with great nutrition and set the tone for the year ahead! There are SO MANY things I want to experience and accomplish in 2014 and I know that in order to do all of these amazing things, my body has got to be fueled up and ready to go, go, go!!

One of the most effective ways to fill your cells with massive amounts of essential minerals and nutrients is JUICE ! There are SO many reasons why juicing is so beneficial, here are just a few:

  • Juice requires hardly any digestion, so all its nutritional goodness gets rapidly into your system while simultaneously giving your digestive system a rest. Your body can then use that saved energy to clean out old matter, especially from the small intestine. The average person holds 5-10lbs of toxic old matter in their intestines, and Feasting is an ideal way to release it, giving the body a phenomenal chance to rejuvenate and restore. Far from being a time of ‘deprivation’, this extraordinary healing programme is an experience of abundance and massive nutritional intake…we lose weight, skin becomes radiantly healthy, illnesses are healed, scar tissue rejuvenates, and we detox our whole system on a massive scale. – Angela Stokes
  • When you juice, you use waaaaaay more fruits and vegetables than you could actually eat at one time. As a result, you are drinking a HUGE quantity of vitamins, minerals and other plant-based nutrients that would be impossible to get otherwise.

  • You give your WHOLE BODY a chance to “clean house”. Without the added burden of digestion, which takes a LOT of time and energy, the body is now free to work on other things like detoxing the liver and kidneys…and the remains of all those Ramen Noodles you used to eat! When we drink Raw vegetable juices, the situation is entirely different, as these [micronutrients] are digested and assimilated within 10 to 15 minutes after we drink them and they are used almost entirely in the nourishment and regeneration of the cells and tissues, glands and organs of the body. In this case the result is obvious, as the entire process of digestion and assimilation is completed with a maximum degree of speed and efficiency, and with a minimum of effort on the part of the digestive system. – Dr. Norman Walker: “Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juices“, Pg 9

  • All vegetables are alkalizing (my clients know ALL about this!!). The benefits of maintaining alkalinity in the body are crucial. There are entire books written on the subject and this is something that I cover in detail in my private one-on-one sessions, so without getting into too much detail, here are just a few benefits of maintaining an alkaline environment in our tissues:
  • Improved focus and mental clarity
  • Improved heart and cardiovascular function
  • Anti-Aging
  • Improved bone & joint function
  • Stronger Immune System – infections and disease thrive in an acidic environment
  • Better digestion
  • Better overall mood
  • Healthier hair, skin and nails
  • Natural body weight
  • ENERGY!!!
  • Heart Health: Both antioxidant vitamins C and E  prevent the damaging effect of free radicals on artery walls. They prevent blood from sticking, clotting, becoming toxic as well as helping to lower triglycerides levels. Great levels of vitamin C can be found in most fruits and vegetables. Good levels of vitamin E can be attained by adding blackberries, kiwi, asparagus and spinach in your juice recipes.
  • Liver Detoxification: One of the primary functions of the liver is to serve as the body’s detoxifier.  It is involved with detoxifying harmful substances (like environmental toxins, chemicals, food additives, preservatives, drugs, etc) before they can enter the bloodstream and harm the body.  Periodic cleansing of the liver through juicing can be important in  maintaining good health.  Fresh juices reduce the burden on the liver and give it a chance to catch up.  Juicing allows the liver to rid itself of accumulated toxins, thus permitting it to operate more efficiently.

With all of those benefits, how could you NOT want to start juicing?! If you need more inspiration, check out the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead streaming live on Netflix. It will be all the inspiration you need!

It’s worth it to invest in a great juicer. My favorite brand is Breville, they range from about $150-300. You can get great deals online or use those 20% OFF coupons from Bed Bath & Beyond. Amazon has

I have used each model and all of them are wonderful so just choose the model that aligns with your budget. Craigslist can also be a great place to score a great deal. Your juicer will last you several years and it’s one of the best kitchen additions to really help take your health to the next level! Plus it’s tons of fun!

Hi Linda, is there a great alternative for grapefruit to use in the recipe as I know it can interfere with medication such as the contraceptive pill? Thanks :)

    • Linda January 10, 2014 at 11:20 pm #

Hmm, I’ve not heard that grapefruit can interfere with the pill, interesting! Any other citrus fruit will do just fine :)

      • Natasha May 1, 2014 at 5:00 am #

Hi Linda, I don’t know what romaine lettuce is. What else Can I use in its place? Also, do you mean, we can eat normal food too and just have this once a day? We are not on a juice only diet here?

        • Linda May 1, 2014 at 2:23 pm #

Any kind of lettuce will do :)
I know in Australia sometimes it’s called cos lettuce (i think?!)

Yes, you will have this drink and can still eat, I’d recommend lots of smoothies, salads, and clean proteins.
You should check out the Green Smoothie Detox as a simple meal plan. It works great!! You can read more about it here http://lindawagner.net/blog/shop/ebooks/green-smoothie-detox

hi Linda, I was wondering how soon can you feel and see the difference from this fat flush??? I am good about sticking to things BUT I always NEED TO SEE or FEEL the RESULTS, lol my son just bought a juicier so I decided nows a good time to try and detoxify and maybe loose a few lbs also, its a win win :)

    • Jen July 9, 2014 at 6:59 pm #

      Nice detailed info @ Linda
I’m just confused about what juicers to go with? Any recommendations?
I kinda like this one http://amzn.to/1oCBDCW and its coming at a 33% discount but any help would be appreciated :)

      • Linda July 16, 2014 at 2:03 am #

That one is fine! I also like the Breville Juice Fountain Elite since the chute is wider and it’s faster to juice!

      • sue May 5, 2015 at 12:32 am #

        Breville is the best

      • Sue May 19, 2015 at 1:05 pm #

I use a regular blender for all my smoothies. Everything ends up small enough to go through a straw, which is great!

  2. Sara January 12, 2014 at 4:12 am #

Hello Linda I was wondering if you have a recipe for a just that helps with constipation thank you and I love your blog I purchase your juice feast ebook it was great thanks.

  3. Erin January 15, 2014 at 8:30 am #

I went out last night to get all the ingredients to make this. It is so delicious and refreshing! I don’t have a juicer, so I blended it all instead. I considered straining it, but I got impatient and drank it as-is, hee-hee. It is a beautiful colour, and everything just goes together perfectly. Thank you for sharing this recipe!

    • Linda January 15, 2014 at 6:41 pm #

Oh wow, good to know that it tastes great blended as well!!

  4. Rona January 31, 2014 at 3:50 pm #

How long is this juice good for once you make it?
    Thanks

    • Linda January 31, 2014 at 3:58 pm #

It’s best to drink right away but should be drank in 12 hrs. So if you make it in the morning, you’ll want to drink it by the end of the day :)

  5. Amanda February 10, 2014 at 2:42 pm #

How often do you drink it? Do you drink it everyday or every other day?

    • Linda February 13, 2014 at 3:24 am #

You can drink it daily! :)

      • Manuela February 26, 2014 at 7:31 pm #

For how long can I drink it?

        • Linda February 26, 2014 at 8:39 pm #

You can drink at least 16oz everyday! Enjoy!

  6. Orlene February 26, 2014 at 8:32 pm #

Hi, great information…I am eager to try this. How many 16oz should I drink and can I continue to eat regular food and how many days should I drink it.

    • Linda February 26, 2014 at 8:38 pm #

Yes, you can continue to eat as usual. You can drink at least 16oz everyday! Enjoy!

  7. Terina March 1, 2014 at 10:54 pm #

Can you use kale instead of the romain?

    • Linda March 4, 2014 at 11:08 pm #

      Yes, absolutely!

  8. Gale April 20, 2014 at 4:29 pm #

Is there any alternative for those of us with Diabetes type 2? I’m concerned about the sugar content in the fruit. Thanks so much. I want to try it ASAP!

    • Mark July 30, 2014 at 2:24 am #

Gale, the sugars found in the juice that Linda has graciously provided the recipe for are all natural and because of the glycemic index rating of these fruits, (grapefruit juice (fresh)=48; orange juice (fresh)=46) they shouldn’t affect blood sugar levels much. The glycemic index is a measure of how quickly the carbohydrates found in food provides the body with energy. If you are on medication, though, you might want to check out the possible affect of grapefruit on that medication. I would also suggest you read a book entitled, “Wheat Belly” written by William Davis, MD (ISBN 978-1-44341-273-5). It was a HUGE eye opener for me when it comes to diabetes, obesity and a number of other conditions. I hope this helps. Good luck! 9. Erica April 20, 2014 at 4:56 pm #

I will certainly try this. But, can you explain what this is actually supposed to do? Thanks Linda

  10. Tyrel April 21, 2014 at 7:02 am #

Is mint absolutely necessary, or can something else be used? Cause I HATE minty food…except for gum, but I don’t count that as food.

    • Linda April 21, 2014 at 5:22 pm #

you can omit the mint :)

  11. Nohemi May 14, 2014 at 8:23 pm #

Could I drink juice only if I do a 3 day fast?

  12. Nohemi May 14, 2014 at 8:26 pm #

Could I drink this juice only if I do a 3 day fast? Meaning I’d have this juice for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  13. Eva May 22, 2014 at 1:06 am #

hi linda i have some questions…if for some reason i dont use mint, can i use parley?-…or may be spinach…u think

  14. Debbie May 28, 2014 at 12:16 pm #

By the time I juiced everything, it was over 16oz. Is that a problem? Probably my oranges are larger than you considered. I also had a large head of Romaine. I did not get the hearts because I wanted the darker leaves.

    • Linda May 28, 2014 at 9:56 pm #

      Hi Debbie, that’s just fine!!
And yes, you are right, the amount can vary significantly based on the size of your fruit and veg. As long as it tastes good, it’s no problem at all! :)

      • debswildtree@yahoo.com June 2, 2014 at 12:58 pm #

Thanks for the reply, Linda…one more question…can I use this as a “dinner” drink? I work late and hate to cook and eat a meal that late in the evening. Once I get home, I have yard work or housework to do. I thought about juicing and having that before I do my evening chores. What do you think?

  15. Michelle June 6, 2014 at 7:43 pm #

I’m allergic to oranges- what can I use instead?

    • Linda June 6, 2014 at 7:48 pm #

      can you do grapefruits?
if not, green apples could work in their place.

  16. Ronda June 7, 2014 at 12:17 am #

Do these have to be juiced? Can you get the same benefits if these were blended? Was wondering because I’m on a weight loss program and have lost 34lbs and this sounds like something I really want to try. I just can’t afford to get a juicer right now.

    • Linda June 11, 2014 at 9:41 pm #

      Congrats on your weight loss!!
Yes, You can blend them together but it might be bitter as a smoothie!

      • holly July 6, 2014 at 5:58 pm #

What about using a nutribullet with peels on?

        • Linda July 7, 2014 at 3:15 pm #

That would be very, very bitter!! The peels always make juices/smoothies bitter. This recipe is designed for a juicer only and will not taste good in a blender like the nutribullet, unfortunately!

  17. cassie July 3, 2014 at 9:34 pm #

    Hello Linda,
I am trying to get into a just juicing diet would this be a good one to start with. Could it be acceptable to use as main entree subsitute?

    • Linda July 7, 2014 at 3:17 pm #

Yes, I would have at least 24-32 ounces if you are using it at a meal replacement. You can also learn more about doing a full fledged juice diet here lindawagner.net/blog/shop/ebooks/beginners-guide-to-juice-feasting

  18. Colleen July 10, 2014 at 10:43 pm #

Can I substitute the grapefruit as I am on heart medication and I have also been told no almonds as well. I want the flush without revving up my metabolism.

    • Linda July 16, 2014 at 2:00 am #

Hi Colleen, you could use oranges instead but I would only use 2 oranges so it’s not too sweet!

      • Wendi August 3, 2014 at 9:28 pm #

Hi, instead of juicing, could this be run through a vitamix? I get freaked out about too much orange juice…good food/bad food programming, I know. But the using the whole orange makes me feel better about it. Thoughts??

        • Linda August 5, 2014 at 9:22 pm #

          Hi Wendi,
If you don’t want to use orange then you can use all grapefruit instead. It might be a tart but the effects should be the same :)

  19. Jo July 16, 2014 at 4:34 am #

Hi Linda, I love this juice! So simple and refreshing! Just wanted to ask what is the nutritional info for this recipe? Am calorie counting so just wanted to enter the right calorie info in my app. For some reason my app calculated 299cals which seems a bit high given that it’s mainly citrus fruits and a veg!

  20. Grisel Guzman July 20, 2014 at 12:46 am #

Hi Linda! I have a question. What do u recommend for bloating. I’ve notice when I eat greasy food or spicy I get very bloated. Is this recipe fine? Thx

  21. charmaine August 7, 2014 at 3:10 am #

    Dear Linda..

    Can i use 0ranges instead 0f grapefruit?? meaning i will have t0 use 3 peeled 0ranges & mint leaves & lettuce.

    tq

    • Linda August 9, 2014 at 2:57 pm #

sure! grapefruit is better since there is less sugar but if you can do grapefruit, oranges would be fine :)

  22. David Baker September 1, 2014 at 1:31 am #

Can you use the nutribullet instead of a juicer?

    • Linda September 3, 2014 at 11:06 pm #

no, it has to be a juicer :)

      • Robert McMillan April 4, 2015 at 6:24 pm #

Do you have any recipes for those of us that do have a nutribullet and not a juicer?

  23. Renee mills September 2, 2014 at 4:05 am #

    Thanks very good juice

    • Randall September 5, 2014 at 12:17 am #

  25. Nicole October 20, 2014 at 8:26 pm #

Hey Linda! Is it okay to juice have the juice all day?

    • Linda October 20, 2014 at 10:13 pm #

      Yes, absolutely!!

  26. izzi November 12, 2014 at 12:32 pm #

Instead of lettuce can we use spinach?

    Spinach bunch
    Celery
    Ginger
    Cucumber
    Green apple

Thats the one I used to cleanse last year but too rich in iron.

    • Linda November 12, 2014 at 10:05 pm #

sure, you could substitute spinach or any other green!

  27. Karen November 17, 2014 at 9:17 pm #

Hi! I just tried this juice in the morning, delish! Thanks for the info! Question, how many calories does this juice contain?

  28. Princess November 28, 2014 at 10:38 am #

Hi Linda, can I use Pomelo instead of grapefruit?

    • Linda December 18, 2014 at 5:48 pm #

      sure, that will work :)

  29. princess November 28, 2014 at 2:51 pm #

Hi Linda, Can I use Pomelo instead of grapefruit? and Can I dink this before I go to bed? I made this today but I was not able to find Grapefruit so I use green apples I omitted the mint too.. :) Its super yummy

    • Linda December 9, 2014 at 2:49 pm #

      sure, pomelo should work!
You can have it before bed but I think it would be better during the day anytime :)

  30. Peter December 27, 2014 at 9:40 am #

    Hello Linda
I love this recipe, I cannot have a grapefruit, am allergic to it, what can l use it instead to have same a good benefits, please help

    • Linda January 20, 2015 at 5:39 pm #

I would use a combo of lemons and oranges if you can!

  31. Carolina December 27, 2014 at 11:33 pm #

Do you need to add water ? Or am I just juicing the fruits only

    • Linda January 20, 2015 at 5:32 pm #

      fruits only! :)

  32. Kim January 11, 2015 at 2:09 am #

I just this recipe tonight and I like it. It is very tart, but I did make it through about 12 oz and I will try it again tomorrow.

  33. Melissa March 6, 2015 at 2:50 pm #

    Hi Linda,
Instead of using greens in the juice, can you use other veggies say carrots? And if carrots how many would you recommend?
    Thanks

    • Linda March 12, 2015 at 2:24 pm #

I would use greens, the carrots won’t provide the same benefit as they have a higher sugar content. You could, however, substitute a vegetable like cucumber or zucchini!

  34. Kate March 15, 2015 at 2:20 am #

If this is a “fat dissolver” juice, isn’t it important to make the recipe as stated? Do the substitutions above actually work in the same manner as the original recipe?

Thanks for clearing this up for me. :) Just purchased my juicer and getting ready to start tomorrow. Very excited.

    • Linda March 26, 2015 at 3:05 pm #

      Hi Kate,
It would be ideal to follow the recipe as stated, however, if you have food sensitives, allergies, etc. then substitutions can be made and the juice will still be beneficial :)

  35. Suki May 26, 2015 at 10:27 pm #

Hi Linda I was wondering if I can drink this 5 times a day instead of food?

    • Linda May 28, 2015 at 4:21 pm #

Suki, you mean like doing a juice fast? Yes, you could, although it might get a little boring having the same juice over and over again! You might want to check out my Juice Feasting 101 eBook for more ideas!

    • Linda January 4, 2016 at 8:51 pm #

You could substitute ranges and lemons for the grapefruit
