Getting back on track after the Holidays

I hope all of you are getting back into the swing of things after the Thanksgiving holiday! I had a lovely time visiting family and friends and taking a little road trip! Here are some highlights from my trip:

And now I’m back in Austin! I’m glad to be home again and I’m definitely ready to get back on track!  The holidays are always a busy, busy time. One of the fastest, easiest ways to get back into the swing of things is to start your morning off with some hot water + lemon. I like to add a little ginger for an added kick!

 

 

It’s not only delicious, it’s also cleansing, hydrating, detoxifying, energizing and great for digestion!

When I come back from vacation I always start that first morning with my special hot water + lemon recipe (this also helps to warm your body up on cold mornings!) followed by a green juice or green smoothie to get added minerals and fiber.  Then I focus on eating a clean vegetable centered diet throughout the rest of the day.

Remember, progress, not perfection can sometimes be the key to surviving the holidays. Having a few more servings of veggies and steering clear of the candy or cookie jar can be a huge step!  The biggest trap is when we fall into the all or nothing category. As in “Oh, the office brought in doughnuts for breakfast this morning and I had one so now I may as well just give up for today and try again tomorrow.”  As we all know, tomorrow never comes and the vicious cycle continues…

Don’t let yourself fall into that trap! Get your cute little but to the grocery store and get stocked up on lots of veggies, ingredients for fresh squeezed juices (if you have a juicer), green smoothies, whole grains, and lean meats. Preparation is key, you can survive the holidays but you must be prepared!!

    Thanks for the great explanation of the benefits of hot lemon water. I’ve never heard it explained that way! This really encourages me to begin my day in such a wonderful way.

    I love your photographs! They really make me want to go where youve been! And now Im off to the shop to stock up on lemons and ginger :) I like making orange, carrot and ginger juices to have with my dinner :)

    Aww… so my mate’ in the morning is what’s stressing me? hehe… I love the idea of hot clean water with lemon. I will start this tomorrow (Since I’m reading your post drinking my mate’). I’m still trying to get my glow back from all the emotional madness I recently went though when mom passed. I feel like I aged. Help me Linda! I want to look as beautiful and vibrant as you!! <3

    Aw Snoop, I know you’re going through a hard time. I went through a very traumatic time several years ago and I definitely feel like it aged me; mostly due to stress, lack of sleep, and lack of proper nutrition. Pretty sure my adrenals were completely burnt out and then some!! My advice would be to do things that are nourishing to your physical body and your spirit (so no stimulants!). Hot water with lemon followed by Green juices or smoothies, warm soups, and lots of hot baths with dead sea salts, journaling, and watching funny movies helped me get through it! Meditation/yoga/being creative can be great and so can just talking to a good friend! I’m here if you need me! Lots of love to you!! xo

    Your pictures make me miss Fort Collins! Can’t wait to get back to Old Town for Christmas. Since I’m out of ginger root, would it be just as beneficial to add lemon to hot ginger tea?
