Get the Glow
Greeeeeeeen!! You gotta get your GREENS!! (Even if the greens are hidden like in the smoothie pictured above! Keep reading, the recipe is at the end of this post). Greens are the key to a healthy bod, balanced system, and maintaining long term weight loss. I simply adore my Green Smoothies and, as it turns out, so do you!! Here are just a few comments I’ve received lately:
“Hi Linda, I just made myself a “Green Smoothie”. I can’t believe how light, yet filling it is. I thought the photos you took of your green smoothie were heavily photoshopped on the color palette. Ha! I was wrong. That blender turns spinach neon green. And the flavor… Fantastic!!!” – Greg
“Hi Linda just tried your Green Smothie. And was full most of the morning. I am now going to have it every morning. I love how great it tastes and I did not snack like I would normally do, I was full. Thank you so much.” -MaryAnn
“I can no longer say I hate vegetables – thank you Linda, you’ve changed my life! My first session with Linda was on June 14th and started drinking Green Smoothies on June 16th according to Linda’s suggestion. It took just a couple of times and I got used to them, and now I’m totally in love with them!! I have bought more spinach since June 16th than I have ever bought in my entire life… loving it… and can’t go without! I use two very large hanfuls of spinach for my smoothies and don’t even taste it! I don’t even need to use Stevia to sweeten it because it’s already sweet enough from the frozen fruit added, along with the bananas… especially when you use very ripe bananas! I hated spotted bananas (would never touch them), and now I can’t wait for them to get spotty for my smoothies because they add so much sweetness! I now love vegetables with my meals and my husband can’t believe this is coming from the person he used to urge to eat more vegetables, but never succeeded! Linda, I am loving our sessions together and what I am learning from you… I am amazed at myself and I have you to thank.” -Cynthia (P.S. Cynthia is a rock star!! Love you Cynthia!!)
“I also love green smoothies – and so does my toddler! We drink one everyday, and they are usually very similar to your recipe above. I love that they are easy to make and fast to clean up after meal that I don’t have to think about at all – great for busy moms!” – Jenni
“I just made my first green smoothie (I’m drinking it as I type this) and it is SO GOOD!! I LOVE spinach, but never thought about putting it into a smoothie with fruit! I think I have just found my new favorite drink!! Thank you so much for sharing!
” – Laura
Parts of this post originally appeared in an article I wrote here back in March 2011. It’s all worth repeating though as the Green Smoothie is such a powerful tool to add to your weight loss arsenal. If I’ve ever fallen off track I immediately go back to my Green Smoothies. I’ll have them for breakfast, snacks, and they’re also great for pre & post workout fuel. It’s a fast, easy, and delicious way to get a big dose of vitamins and minerals, plus it tastes FANTASTIC!!
Don’t let the color fool you!! It is sweet and filling – even the kids love it!! They love to name it the “Monster Smoothie” or “Shreck Smoothie” or some other fun name but believe me, kids go crazy for it!! And it’s a great way to sneak in some powerful green nutrition into their diet.
It’s super fast to make and a great breakfast or snack option, especially for people on the go and those looking to lose weight. It takes only 2 min to make and clean up. Doesn’t get much faster or easier than that!!
This morning I made a super simple smoothie that knocked my socks off. All you need is a blender and the following ingredients:
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 cup frozen mango
- 1 cup fresh cut pineapple
- 2 handfuls of baby spinach
- water
- ice (if desired)
Add enough water to blend and enjoy, that’s it! Forget the dehydrating morning latte and get the glow with a Green Smoothie instead. This recipe tastes like a dream come true and will make about 32oz.
I have clients, as you’ve seen above, who have literally changed their lives just by adding Green Smoothies into their routine. Great for weight loss, digestive health, supporting the immune system, and as a healthy and filling snack. After a couple of weeks you’ll have that ‘Glow’ – glowing skin, hair, nails, even eyes get brighter! Who doesn’t want that?!
Try any combo you like, all you need is a base of bananas, fruit of your choice and a couple handfuls of your favorite green (I like spinach as it has a really mild flavor that blends well).
Berry Green
Does the green color turn you off? Here’s another great recipe, not green in color but still has the amazing benefits of your typical green smoothie – just hidden behind the red/purple color of delicious berries
This is great for kids or family members who are opposed to anything green, they’ll never know – it will be our little secret! Shhhh!
You’ll need:
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1/2 cup frozen mango
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries
- 1 small handful of baby spinach
- water
- ice (if desired)
Add all ingredients to the blender with enough water to blend and enjoy! This recipe also makes 1 qt (32oz) Keep in mind, the more berries, the brighter the color. The more spinach you add, the more green/brown your smoothie will be.
Just like Cynthia’s quote said at the top of this article, spotted bananas make the best smoothies! Don’t be afraid of ripe bananas! If they start to get too ripe, simply peel ‘em and freeze ‘em to use later!
Go ahead, try it, I know you want to!! It may just change your life!!
Green Smoothie FAQ:
- People always ask me what kind of blender I use and recommend. I make all my smoothies using a VitaMix which is a super awesome, state of the art, amazing, must have high speed blender. They are the ONLY blender that will get you the creamy consistency that you desire. I love, love, LOVE my VitaMix and highly recommend investing in one if you are ready to make serious changes to your diet. I have had mine for almost 5 years and use it daily! If you’re not ready to drop that kind of cash, Hamilton Beach makes some great budget friendly blenders that you can get at your local Walmart or Target.
- If you can not do bananas for any reason simply leave it out or substitute any other fruit you like. If you want a creamier consistency, you can substitute avocado or coconut meat/flakes instead of the banana.
- If you cannot have the fruits listed, simply use any fruits that you CAN have. Same goes for the spinach. If you can’t use spinach, you can substitute any green leafy vegetable of your choice; swiss chard, kale, romaine, arugula, etc. The basic recipe is fruit + greens + water.
- If you want the smoothie to be BRIGHT green as pictured, use only lighter colored fruits like pineapple, green grapes, kiwi, green apples, yellow raspberries, pear, orange, etc. If you add darker fruits like strawberries, cherries, etc your smoothie will turn out to be more of a brown color – still DELICIOUS, just not as vibrantly green as in the pictures above.
- Can I add yogurt or milk to my green smoothie? I am a firm believer in proper food combining. Dairy does not combine well with fruit and will cause fermentation, yeast, digestive issues, and will not aid in weight loss. That’s the reason I don’t recommend adding yogurt or any other dairy products. Believe me, you will be satisfied with the smoothies, the recipe will make about a quart which will definitely fill you up!!
- If you have blood sugar issues, use avocado and/or coconut meat/flakes and semi-sweet fruits like grapefruit, berries, green apples, and add stevia to taste. I strongly recommend purchasing products through iherb.com. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE iherb!! They’ve got the lowest prices ANYWHERE (often up to 40% below retail) and I can get absolutely anything I need from supplements & superfoods to shampoo, facial cleanser, bath salts and laundry detergent - you name it, they’ve got it!! I love you guys, so please feel free to use my discount code WAG472 to get $5 OFF your first order + free shipping on orders of $20 or more!!
- If you are constantly rushing out the door in the morning, you can make your smoothies the night before. They will last in the fridge for up to 24hrs.
- If you are REALLY pressed for time, you can make all your green smoothies for the week then freeze them. Each night remove one and let thaw on the counter or in the fridge so that the next morning it’s ready to go.
- A lot of people ask how many calories are in the Green Smoothie. I don’t EVER worry about calories! When you’re eating whole foods, especially raw unprocessed fruits and vegetables, you don’t have to!! That’s what is SO LIBERATING about it!! If you must know, you can use an online calculator like fitday.com but know that those details don’t matter when you’re eating whole foods! I go into a lot more detail about this in my one-on-one sessions if you’re interested in learning and understanding more

Hi Linda! I have been drinking green smoothie for a few weeks now and look forward to trying this Berry Green as well. I have made a few changes in my diet in order to lose weight and also improve my complexion and so far I am seeing really great results. I am very encouraged by this. So far I have been making the smoothies with fresh bananas. My question is, where do you buy frozen bananas from? I have only seen them in my area as desserts, normally dipped in chocolate or another sweet. I think getting frozen bananas would be so much more convenient since they will last for a longer time. Thanks!
Hi Karla,
I actually freeze my own. I typically buy several bunches of bananas then peel and freeze them when they start to get brown and spotty. This way I always have them on hand!
Looks delicoius Linda. Love the green color and the pictures are awesome.
Thanks Faith!! xo
Hi Linda! I found your website while I was looking for Green Smoothie recipes. Your green smoothie with the mango & pineapple is my favorite so far! I just got my Vitamix on Sunday and have been drinking two a day. Do you recommend rotating greens if I am drinking smoothies every day? I am having a hard time finding the organic greens other than spinach and lettuces. Thanks for your advice! Kim
Hi Kim,
I use spinach in almost all of my green smoothies, it’s just what I prefer. There’s no reason you can’t use the same greens every day!
Thanks Linda! I have been using mostly organic spinach and rotating in organic swiss chard (red & yellow) and dinosaur kale when I can find it at the Farmer’s Market on the weekend. My husband and I have your green smoothie every morning! I am interested to read your upcoming post on cravings. My evening cravings have VANISHED since I started drinking green smoothies three weeks ago!
Hello!! I somehow discovered your blog just today and I ended up looking through many of your older posts! I think your blog is so amazing and inspirational – favorite one so far! I’ve learned many things and got many tips from your blog; thank you so much and I can’t wait to read more from you!!! (subscribing for sure!)
Thanks Stephaine! So glad you are enjoying it!! xo
Linda,
I have a new schedule at work and it is really starting to cause problems with my eating habits. When you say you take two smoothies to work sometimes, how do you keep them from melting. Do you simply put them in the fridge once you get to work, or do you take your own lunch box? Just wondering how you keep a smoothie, if you aren’t going to drink it immediately. Thanks!
Hi Cassidy,
I put them in the fridge or in a cooler with some ice packs. You can also freeze your smoothies ahead of time and then let them thaw. I hope that helps!!
Thanks, I will give it a try!
Linda,
I just found your blog through Pinterest. Loving your blog and site so far!! My daughter recently had a large, very rare, tumor removed from her abdomen area ( it is called a juvenile granulosa cell tumor, from her left ovary). I was always a health nut, but now I am taking it to crazy level. No microwaves, “happy” organic meat, and trying to get her to drink green smoothies. ( I use powdered greens called greens first) Thank you for the inspiration and the recipes!! PS I have to ask if those are glass straws in your pics and if they are where did you get them. I am a little crazy in the “chemical” department too and hate plastics. Thanks! Marny
Hi Marny,
Thanks for sharing your story. The green smoothies will be a great addition to your daughter’s regime as will all of the recipes in the recipe section. And never underestimate the healing power of GREEN JUICE!! The glass straws are from glass dharma http://glassdharma.com/ they are fantastic! Once you go glass, you don’t go back! LOL!!
Could u please tell me about how many calories a 16oz would be?
Hi Russell, it depends on what ingredients and the quantities you decide to use.
I personally don’t count calories, quite frankly they don’t matter if you are eating the right foods! If you need to know, there are several online calorie counters online that are very easy to use!
Hello Linda! I made the green smoothie this morning and it was delicious!!!!!! Being a single parent with three girls and also in the military I never find the time to eat breakfast or eat right because I am always in such a rush but I must say that this smoothie has been added to my everyday schedule! I am going to share this with all my military friends :0). Thanks!
Just tried the first recipe today, and it was delicious! I thought there was no way it could be as good as you said with all that spinach in it, but you really can’t taste it at all. Thank you so much for this great post!
You’re Welcome Addie!! So glad you like it! It’s crazy right?! All my clients give me strange looks when I bring up the smoothies but they are actually really delicious!!
I went to the store for spinach today and tried the recipe! It’s so easy and very good. My son who is very picky loved it, so he is getting a dose of veggies without even knowing! “Shrek Smoothie” is a hit! Thank you so much!
Fantastic!!!
I love green smoothies and have been enjoying them at least 4 times a weeks (I am huge lover of raw oatmeal with sunbutter and soy milk for breakfast too) … another way to cut out the ice is to use frozen bananas, it makes them more like a soft ice cream, very yummy! I buy old bananas at the grocery store and put them right into the freezer.
These look great, and I can’t wait to try them. 32 oz does seem like a lot, though! Is the recipe supposed to be one serving, or two?
Hi Emily,
Sometimes I will have the entire 32oz and sometimes I will have half at breakfast and half in between breakfast and lunch. It just depends on your hunger level
Enjoy!
This is great! You seriously cannot even tell there is spinach in these smoothies! This is going to become a staple in my house! I even added ground flax seed to mine and cannot taste those, either! Thank you so much!
Any suggestions or substitutions for me since I’m allergic to mango and pineapple? Allergic to most fresh fruits actually. I can eat citrus, berries, and bananas.
Hi Tracy,
Just use the fruits that you are not allergic to: citrus, berries, and bananas.
Banana, strawberry, orange + spinach sounds like a winner to me!!
Thanks Linda. These are delicious. What are your thoughts about adding flax seed to smoothies?
I don’t personally add flax but you can if you want to!
Is it ok to have a small bowl of oatmeal with a green smoothie in the morning or is that too much?
You shouldn’t need to also have oatmeal. 24-32 oz of Green Smoothie is pretty filling!
I just saw this on Pinterest… Looks really good! How would this fit into a diabetic diet? I have concerns about the amount of fruit.
do you think frozen spinach would work ok?
I am also a recent discoverer of your website and made the chicken coated with ezekial breadcrumbs – amazingly delicious and simple. I think the green smoothie recipe sounds great. Is there is a reason there is no protein? Seems like it would have more staying power with some plain yogurt added.
I am a firm believer in proper food combining. Dairy does not combine with fruit and will cause fermentation, yeast, digestive issues and will not aide in weight loss. That’s the reason I don’t recommend adding yogurt or any other dairy products. Believe me, you will be satisfied with the smoothies, the recipe will make about a quart which will definitely fill you up!!
Hi Linda – New to your site. I might have missed it but how many calories are in your smoothies?
Linda, is there any reason why in the 3 different recipes (peach/mango, mango/pineapple and mango/berry), some call for a half cup of a fruit and other times it’s a full cup? Can we always use a full cup of each fruit or is that too much?
It’s just based on preference. If you are using sweeter fruit, you can get away with less. Just taste as you go, you’ll find the perfect ratios for you!
Hey there!! is it okay if I use frozen pineapple instead of fresh in the top smoothie?
yes, of course!
Hi! Smoothies are among my favorite breakfasts but never thought of adding spinach… love it!! I made the green smoothie and added plain greek yogurt for a healthy dose of protein to boot… YUM! Thanks for the great recipe.
I don’t have access to good fresh spinach where I am, can you use frozen spinach ?
You can try it, I don’t know how it will taste though…let me know!
Hi !
How do you use spinaches ? just wash them and blend ? or do you put it in a pot with hot water for a minute to “cook” them?
just wash and blend
Hello Linda!
I was the one that placed this wonderful post on my Pinterest board and it is a hit. I have been adding my home made yogurt to it, but after reading your answer to one of the questions, I will not!
I would like to give an update on this smoothie. I have been drinking it now for 8 days. I drink it in the morning and pretty much the rest of the day until lunch time. When I have a nice, portioned control lunch and then a portioned control dinner. Do I snack in between? NO! not because I am restraining, but because these smoothies have taken my cravings away for anything made with flour or white sugar. I only crave the fruit and veggies as the sweetener. Isn’t this awesome? I am a diabetic, and my sugar has not increased at all!!!
I am feeling wonderful throughout the day. Loosing weight takes time, especially when your body is now getting used to eating correctly. There is a lot of cleansing and detoxing that has to happen before you begin to truly see results. But meanwhile, I must keep up my end of the bargain.
Phew! Long comment – sorry. But this is one thing that I am very passionate about and I would like to thank you for your wonderful posts that just keep coming into my feeder. I look forward to each one!
Be blessed!
Maria
Maria, your comment is FANTASTIC!! Keep going, you’re on the right track!! The results WILL COME!! Go girl!! xo
This is my first time on ur website and honestly i havenot seen anything as inspirational as yours. Recipes are great and super healthy and on top less time consuming. You are doing a great job.
Keep it up:-)
Thank you so much Pari! I’m so glad you are finding inspiration here!! xo
Hi linda!
Iv just read this article and im very excited to make my first green smoothie!
I just wanted to ask if there was any difference in using frozen or fresh fruits?
Thanks!
X
HI Sharan,
There is no difference. Frozen is easier for me since I can just store my ingredients in the freezer and not worry about constantly getting to the grocery store! I use both fresh and frozen depending on the time of year, what’s available and what my schedule looks like!
Hi this green smoothie looks amazing — however, I am allergic to mango. Any other possible substitute? Thanks so much!! -Taylor
You can substitute any other fruit; pineapple, green grapes, or peeled clementines would be lovely!! If you like a creamy consistency you could also use coconut meat/powder/flakes
Hi Linda! I was wondering, instead of mango and peaces, would apples be a good substitute?
Yes, absolutely!!
I’ve just started making a smoothie every day for my husband, and your recipe looks great, but he’s allergic to bananas! Do you know of something I could use to substitute?
Rachel, any other fruit is fine to use. You could also substitute avocado or coconut meat if you would like a creamy consistency
Hi Linda,
I just found your blog after seeing the green smoothie on laurenconrad.com and I am dying to try this!! I read most of the comments and every one is so inspirational and truly makes me want to be apart of this team! So many weight loss sites tell me to eat bananas, eat bananas, eat bananas! But they make me sick and I absolutely hate them! Is there a good substitute to bananas? Because I’d like to still have my smoothie with mango and peaches and spinach but is there another fruit with the same benefits?
And another quickie-sorry! If I drink the entire smoothie in the morning, is it too much to have another fruit in the afternoon?
XO
Hi Cate, Thanks you so much for stopping by!!
I updated the post and your questions are all answered at the bottom
Enjoy!! Green Smoothies ROCK!! xo
I have known about green smoothies for a while now. However,I just recently got back to drinking them and I have Noticed that Adding milk i am not full as long. Is it because of the water that you stay full longer?? Also I only Drank 16 oz, Is it ok to drink more? I would like to sub them for breakfast and lunch and eat a sensible supper (baked chicken skinless with green beans no butter etc). I just need to find a way to have them so that i am full. Yesterday I drank one for breakfast and was hungry within 2 hours. I drank one for lunch and post workout was REALLY hungry I ended up eating WAYYY too much
If you are hungry, simply have more! I typically drink 32oz servings (which is what the quantity these recipes will make). Follow the recipe as listed – if you only had 16oz then the recipe was not followed correctly. You’ll be full with the correct amount! Remember you can’t have too much so have as much as you need to feel full! That may = 3, 32oz servings through out the day which is fine!!
I’m so excited to try this, but was wondering if I can add fish oil to this smoothie? Thanks
You can try, I don’t know that it would taste very good but try it, that’s the only way to find out!
I put in 3 Tablespoons of Udo’s 3-6-9 oil. Didn’t taste it at all.
Just the great taste of the smoothie.
The green smoothie was so good! I love it! I chopped up all of my fruit and the spinach and put them in individual freezer bags so all I have to do in the mornings is dump a bag into my Magic Bullet and blend! Love this! Thank you so much!
awesome Tracie!!
Absolutely love your site Linda and the beautiful smoothies I feel so much better and more energised and just wondering where abouts do you get your lovely jars from might do that from now on for work so its all set to go
Hello I just found your blog today and can’t wait to try the smoothie. I wonder if they would make good frozen pops for kids…didn’t know if you had tried it?
I haven’t tried it but it’s a great idea and I think it would be AWESOME!!
Going to have to try this!
Hi,
I am going to try the smoothie for the first time today. I need to loose like 10 lbs and im hopping for this to help me. Now when is thed best time to drink it? Breakfast, lunch, or dinner?? Or can i just drink as many smoothies as i want? I am starting a diet today and i am super excited about the smoothies.
Thank you for letting us use it.
Milly
you can drink them anytime you want
Hi and thanks for this delicious smoothie recipe! My 21 old month literally finished a tall glass all to himself but thankfully there was enough for a 2nd glass for me and my little bun in the oven
It tastes so light and delicious!!!!!! THANKS!
AWESOME!!!!
Hi Linda,
Do you recommend drinking the whole 32 oz in the morning or could I drink 16 one day and 16 the next? Also, if i did this could I have a small snack mid morning? I’m trying to get an extra boost in the morning without the coffee as well as jump start some weight loss
Thanks!
I have been drinking a variety of green smoothies for about a week. I feel great, my skin is glowing!! I have read your comments about adding dairy and the side effects associated with it, but about adding tofu for protein or whey protein? Thanks for all of your insight.
P.S. Swiss chard is a good alternative to spinach too, just boil it for 3 minutes before using. This gmcleans out the oxilates that contribute to kidney stones.
Hi, I am so excited to try this it sounds wonderful. I just have one quick question and it may have already been answered…how much water do you use? Thanks!
Just enough water to blend. Start out with 1/4 – 1/2 cup and increase as needed
Hi Linda,
A week ago I started drinking green smoothies(greens & fruits) for breakfast & lunch & having a “good for you” dinner (ex.-beans, brown rice, veggies). If I snack it’s fresh fruit & veggies & some raw nuts. Haven’t lost any weight & haven’t felt that energy boost yet?? Any ideas? Maybe to soon to feel the difference? Started working out yesterday, maybe that will jumpstart things.
THANKS
Thank
Hi Brandy, I’d need a little more information to figure it out. You can email me if you like
I love your site! I had been making smoothies for breakfast using a whey protein mix and adding my own fruits and spinach but when I saw your recipes with the superfoods I immediately ordered some. I plan to make the chocolate superfood smoothie tomorrow morning!! It’s such an easy way to get breakfast. I drink them in the car on my commute to work. Thanks so much for your great informative site!!!
Hi Linda, I’m 22 & from the UK, I’m desperate to try this recipe after all the reviews I have read. I’m currently saving up to buy a decent blender, in the mean time I may buy a substitute. I have access to fresh fruits right next to where I work so this would be easy! I have also bought a Nalgene BPA Free Re-useable bottle so that I can carry the smoothie around with me on my commutes. I am going to recommend this recipe to friends & family! Thanks! I look forward to your other recipes that I will definately try.
can you substitute lettuce for spinach ?
Yes, see the FAQ at the bottom of the post
I just made this smoothie and loved it, only difference I made was I substituted carrot juice for water. Thought I’d give an extra boost of vitamins using juice and it turned out really good! Thanks for all the great tips and recipes!
Hi Linda,
I am about to make these smoothies! I have a Vitamix as well and it really does a wonderful job blending green smoothies. I only have one question – if you are dieting, do you need to worry about the natural sugar content of the fruits for the smoothies? As well, can you add ice instead of water to give it a more dessert like texture?
Personally the only sugar I consume each day is from the fruits in my smoothies so no, I don’t worry about having too much sugar. If you are eating lots of carbs or sweets during the day then I would cut back on those…regardless of whether you are doing the smoothies!!
No need to add ice, it will just dillute the taste. Frozen fruit provides the “ice” just cut back on the amount of water to get a creamier consistency!
I just started making green smoothies for breakfast and my 6 year-old is now obsessed with them! He wants one every morning for breakfast before school and he even wants them for dessert at night instead of ice cream! Now, if I could just get my 3 year-old on board! She may go for the chocolate ones!
Yay!!! I LOVE hearing that!!!! Thank you for sharing and yes, she will definitely love the chocolate smoothies!! You can also try just plain strawberry + banana ! xo
Hello Linda,
I just found your website and am loving it. I actually reposted the green smoothie post on pinterest, which is how I found it. Thanks for being so inspirational.
If I began using your smoothie technique, what is the best schedule for drinking the smoothies, eating etc… I’m needing to lose weight, have thyroid issues and feeling a bit dissatisfied with other tactics I’ve tried in the past. This seems like a great “try” but need to really understand the best schedule of input.
Again… very all of these comments are super inspirational and thank you for being so inspirational!
Warmly
Robin
I always have mine for breakfast and as a snack any time! Enjoy!!
Thanks! It’s really good. Having one right now, as a matter of fact. Warmly,
Robin
Hello Linda
I have been having your green smoothies and they are awesome, I have been telling every person that will listen about your smoothie recipe. I want to let you know that the ninja blender works great on giving you that smooth thickness. Thanks for you information and look forward to reading your blogs and other information.
Mary, you are so welcome!! xo
I attempted to make this today and I’m pretty sure I did it wrong. Mine didn’t come out looking anything like the pictures. I put lots of ice to make it like a slushy, but it was still pulpy and had a strange texture. I used my Ninja to make this, and like I said, I think I messed up somewhere along the way….I may freeze this and eat it like an ice cream or something.
No need to add ice, especially if you are using frozen fruit. It will dillute the taste…If the texture was still chunky just blend longer until it’s nice and smooth. If you follow the recipe exactly as it’s written it should turn out fine. Try again and let me know!
Thank you so much for this. No joke… this changed my life. I have dealt with a life long problem of digestive issues and drinking this every morning has almost cured me of 27 years of pain. Thank you so much! I have tried everything and nothing has worked like this.
Someone suggested to me to add flaxseed meal to the smoothie for some extra nutrients. What do you think and how much would you add?
Thank you!
Sarah!! Thank you so much for this wonderful testament to the power of GREEN SMOOTHIES!! I am so glad you are finally FREE from pain!!!!
Yes, you may add flax see 1/2 – 1 Tbs is fine
wow! Theses smoothies r great i am so impressed with them. They r really helping me i have a bit of anxiety and depression and i need to loose about ten pounds, i was skeptical at first as ive tried alot of natural remedys, i have a bad history of heart desiease an a tripple bypass so i cant use any of the weight loss gimmicks, but theese smoothies are really awesome ive lost 3 pounds just by drinking them no excersise as of yet but with the positive reaction to the smoothies i feel i can do the excersise now and really loose the weight? Thanks so much for sharing ur info i am truly greatful Tracy!
Hey Linda!
I was just wondering, have ever tried to add wheatgrass to any of your GS recipes?
I hear it has a really strong taste, but I want to try it.
Love the site and the recipes. I’m addicted to green smoothies now! I was just wondering what the best way is to incorporate them into your diet. Should they be consumed daily? As a meal replacement? Before breakfast or before bed? What fruits should be avoided for someone trying to lose weight? Also, I’ve heard that consuming the same greens (spinach) for an extended period of time can actually make you sick due to vitamin poision. Is this true?
I have them daily for breakfast and any time as a snack!!
Hello,
Great blog. I’ve been enjoying green monsters for the last few months and love, love love ‘em. However, I’ve been making mine with 0% fat Greek yogurt, spinach and banana plus other fruits, chia, oils as desired – all with tasty and feel great results. I’m curious to know more about your comment about food combining and NOT mixing dairy with fruit. Can you please elaborate? I’m having difficulty with weight loss and wonder if this is part of me problem. Many thanks for your time and help. BTW I use the older model of Ninja blender and it does a great job. Spinach in first, then banana to hold the spinach down, then liquids…. Thx much!
